Understanding Conditional Pokémon Encounters

Time of Day & Seasons

Introduced in Generation 2 (Gold, Silver, Crystal), internal clocks separate wild tables into Morning, Day, and Night. Generation 5 introduced monthly seasonal cycles (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter) altering wild encounter tables in Unova.

Swarms & Poké Radar

Daily mass swarms introduce rare non-native species to specific routes at increased rates. In Generation 4, the Poké Radar reveals hidden species in rustling grass patches that never appear in standard wild tables.

Radio Shows & GBA Slot 2

Broadcasting the Pokémon March or Regional Sounds on the Pokégear radio attracts foreign Pokémon. In DS games (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum), inserting an original Game Boy Advance cartridge into Slot 2 unlocks exclusive wild species on select routes.
